Connect Claude

Accessible to: Workspace Owners, Trainers

You can connect Claude to your Aimee.ai workspace so it can look up your courses, and - if you allow it - create, publish, or assign them for you. You sign in and approve the connection once; there's no password or key to copy and paste.

This works with Claude Code in your terminal, the Claude Code extensions for VS Code and JetBrains, Claude Desktop, and claude.ai in a browser. Pick the section below that matches how you use Claude.

Menu names may vary

Claude changes its own menus and commands from time to time. If a step below doesn't match exactly what you see, look for the closest equivalent - the overall process (add the workspace address, sign in, approve) stays the same.

Before you start

  • A workspace owner must turn this connection on first. Go to Workspace Settings → Features and switch on MCP access - it saves immediately.
  • Only workspace owners and trainers can connect Claude; other roles can't.
  • You'll need your workspace's address. Find it under Workspace Settings, or in the address bar of any page inside your workspace. It looks like this, with your own workspace's ID in place of <workspaceId>:

    https://aimee-api.lennonsec.org/workspaces/<workspaceId>/mcp

Claude Code (terminal, VS Code and JetBrains)

Claude Code is the same tool whether you run it in a terminal or inside VS Code or JetBrains, so these steps cover all three.

  1. Add your workspace, giving the connection a short name you'll recognise later. aimee is a good choice:

claude mcp add --transport http aimee \
      https://aimee-api.lennonsec.org/workspaces/<workspaceId>/mcp

  2. Sign in:

    claude mcp login aimee

Your browser opens an Aimee.ai sign-in screen. Sign in if needed, check that the workspace and the access being requested look right, and select Authorize. You can do the same thing without leaving a Claude Code conversation by typing /mcp and choosing to authenticate.

  3. Check it worked:

    claude mcp list

Your connection should be listed and connected. Then open a Claude Code conversation and ask it to list your courses.

Working over SSH or on a machine with no browser

Use claude mcp login aimee --no-browser. Claude Code prints the sign-in link instead of opening it, so you can open it on another device and paste the address it sends you back to.

Where the connection is saved

Claude Code saves the connection for you, in the current project only. Add --scope to the claude mcp add command to change that:

Scope Who and where it applies
local (the default) Just you, just this project
user Just you, in every project on this machine
project Everyone who works in this project, shared through the project's own files

Use project only if you're happy for your teammates to see that the workspace is connected. Nobody else can use it without signing in and approving the connection themselves.

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Give it a name (for example, your workspace's name) and paste your workspace's address from above.
  4. Select Connect. An Aimee.ai sign-in screen opens - sign in if needed, check the workspace and the access being requested, and select Authorize.
  5. Start a conversation and ask Claude to list your courses to confirm the connection works.

Claude can read and change your workspace

Once connected, Claude can see your courses and workspace data, and can also create, publish, or assign courses on your behalf. There's no option today to give it read-only access. Only connect Claude if you're comfortable giving it the same level of access as a trainer login.

If you'd rather use an access token

Signing in is the simplest way to connect, and it's what we'd recommend. If you're setting Claude Code up somewhere nobody can sign in - a build server, a shared machine, an automated job - you can use a personal access token instead:

claude mcp add --transport http aimee \
  https://aimee-api.lennonsec.org/workspaces/<workspaceId>/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer aimee_pat_..."

A token is a long-lived secret. Treat it like a password, give it to as few machines as possible, and revoke it under Workspace Settings → Integrations → Access Tokens the moment it's no longer needed.

Disconnecting Claude

For Claude Code, sign out and remove the connection:

claude mcp logout aimee
claude mcp remove aimee

You can also cut off access from Aimee.ai's side, which works for every version of Claude: go to Profile → Security → Connected apps and select Revoke next to the connection. Access is cut off immediately, and reconnecting means signing in and approving access again. In Claude Desktop or claude.ai, remove the connector from Settings → Connectors as well.

A workspace owner can cut off every connected app at once by turning off MCP access under Workspace Settings → Features.

If something isn't working

  • Claude can't connect, or sign-in fails - double check the workspace address, including the workspace ID, and confirm MCP access is switched on for your workspace.
  • The sign-in screen says you're not authorized - only workspace owners and trainers can connect Claude. Ask a workspace owner to change your role, or have them connect it instead.
  • Claude Code says the connection failed - run claude mcp get aimee to see its current state, then claude mcp login aimee to sign in again.
  • Claude describes an old version of a course - Aimee keeps a read answer for a short time, so a change you just made can take up to 5 minutes to reach your client. Ask again a few minutes later. See How fresh a read answer is.
  • It stopped working after working before - the connection may have been revoked (check Connected apps in your profile), MCP access may have been turned off for the workspace, or your role in the workspace may have changed. Signing out everywhere or changing your password also ends the connection.

What Claude can do once connected

See Read tools and Write tools in the API Reference for the complete list of what Claude, or any connected app, can look up and do in your workspace.
